Akshay Kumar's gallant nature was revealed in London when his "Housefull" co-star Deepika Padukone was laid up with a bout of malaria. He not only made sure Deepika was looked after, but also persuaded her to stay away from shooting. While Deepika was resting, alternative scenes that didn't require her were shot. "I'm recovering. I was bedridden for three days. And yes, I did return to the set on Saturday. I had to shoot. But I'm not sure whether it was the wisest of decisions, considering it was malaria," Deepika told IANS from London. Akshay and Deepika earlier teamed up for "Chandni Chowk To China", which turned out to be a box office dud. But the film's failure hasn't affected their friendship. "I'm lucky to be surrounded by gallant men. Whether it's my dad, Ranbir (Kapoor), Akshay, Shah Rukh Khan or any of my co-stars, I haven't so far encountered any ill-behaved men," said Deepika whose next release is "Love Aaj Kal". Directed by Imtiaz Ali, "Love Aaj Kal" hits the screens on Friday (July 31). And Saif Ali Khan, who plays Deepika's cynical love interest in the romantic saga, also gets high marks from Deepika, though she admits they aren't close friends. In the movie, Saif plays a guy who doesn't believe in romantic love whereas Deepika is a die-hard romantic both in the film and in real life. "He (Saif) also believes in love and realises it when he can't do without the girl. So I guess there's a romantic in all of us. It just needs to be tapped. But you need to experience that journey from disbelief to love, like I have in real life. "So many times I advice people on their love life. I can always tell the difference between those who understand and don't understand the value of true love," she said.

Ever since her new makeover, Ram Gopal Varma’s muse Priyanka Kothari (pictured left) is being asked about the secret of her alluring curves. Priyanka says that being the strongest non believer in size zero, she believes Indian women are best when they are curvy. She attributes her sensuality to yoga, attitude and confident body language. As supports what famous Hollywood actress Mae West once said: "Cultivate your curves, they might be dangerous but definitely won't be ignored."Currently, Priyanka can be seen at her sensula best in the 'Kiss Mix' song in her upcoming film “Agyaat”, releasing on August 7

Five others also accused of copyright infringement

Rakhi Sawant with Ravi Kishan on 'Rakhi Ka Swayamvar'
A police complaint has been filed against item girl Rakhi Sawant and five others for infringement of copyright regarding NDTV's reality show "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar". The channel has promised to defend the actress as well as itself.Gaurav Tiwari, the Jaipur-based owner of the web portal swayamvar.com, Tuesday filed a complaint against Rakhi, actor Ravi Kishan and a top official of the channel apart from others, for allegedly stealing the concept of a marriage-based TV reality show for "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" from his portal. An official statement by the channel says Tiwari had earlier filed a suit against them in a district court in Jaipur but the court refused to grant him any relief. He appealed against the order in the High Court, which also refused to grant him any interim relief, including his demand that the show not be telecast, according to the channel. "Now that there are press reports of him having filed a criminal complaint, we shall make the necessary enquiries, and proceed to defend the matter as may be advised to us," said the statement from the channel. "It is not unusual in our industry for litigation around successful shows - there have been several instances of frivolous litigations filed across the country around movies and television programmers to impact their launch or telecast, resulting in press publicity for the complainant. "Our position is that everything involving the creation and ownership of the show is legally above board, and we believe that the allegations are false and malicious and intended to defame our company," added the statement. The show "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar", through which Rakhi decided to find her life partner, is in its last leg now. She will be tying the knot with her chosen groom Sunday in the presence of family, friends as well as officials from the channel.

Apart from it being his first production, the film also comes after his two big flops in a row – ‘Tashan’ and ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ – hence the need to get this one right.

Rajniesh Duggall was last seen in his debut film, Vikram Bhatt's '1920'
Model-turned-actor Rajniesh Duggall will play Khalid Mohammed in "Rutba", which is being directed by the film critic-turned-director.Khalid, who took inspiration from his mother's life for scripting Shyam Benegal's critically acclaimed film "Zubeidaa", has incorporated his real life incidents in the story of "Rutba". "This movie is a fictionalised version of some events inspired by Khalid's life and I would be playing Khalid in it. There will be some changes in my look to suit the character," Rajniesh told IANS from Mumbai on phone. "Rutba", which is being produced by Vikram Bhatt, is Khalid's fourth directorial venture after "Silsiilay" (2005), "Tehzeeb" (2003) and Fiza (2000). Rajniesh describes it as an intense movie. "My character is very serious and the film doesn't have many light moments, but it won't be heavy. It is a very balanced movie," said the former Mr. India. "Khalid wanted to take me and when he narrated the story to me, I just loved it. Also, this is one of those opportunities where I would be working with one of the finest directors. Learning is a never ending process and working with Khalid for this movie is another big opportunity for me," he added. In "Rutba", the actor is paired with a newcomer. This would be Rajniesh's third movie with Vikram Bhatt after "1920" and "Phhirr", which is slated to release in September. His other projects include a romantic comedy "Bajaj Lost and Found" where he plays a man who is in search of his parents, but when he finds them he wants to get rid of them. Mallika Sherawat might be known for her bold style statements and her bold dressing sense. But when it came to stripping for her upcoming movie “Hisss” (pictured above), she flatly refused to go nude. In one of the scenes, Mallika had to transform into a snake and that required her to slither and wriggle in the mud. While doing so, some certain parts of her body, including her bottom, had to be exposed. Mallika did not want to show her bottom and hence she asked for a body double to do the scene. Director Jennifer Lynch had to give in to Mallika’s request and agree on a body double. “Hisss” is a story of a Naagin, played by Mallika, who sets out to find a mate with a vengeance.

Instead of debuting with a romantic film, Sheena Nayar is making her acting debut with the spooky thriller "8", which is the first project of Percept Picture Company (PPC) Horrortainment.PPC Horrotainment is PPC's special arm for producing horror films and it has joined hands with Glorious Entertainment for the project, to be directed by Wilson Louis. Sheena says she accepted the film because the script will give her a perfect platform to showcase her talent. "The association of PPC, Wilson Louis plus the script was the key ingredients in my choosing this film as my launch. My forte is to act and I feel this film will give me the perfect platform to do just that. Even the director felt that the character is a very intense one and only a serious minded actor would be able to pull it off" she said. Navin Shah, CEO of PPC, said: "The film is a smart and trendy horror film which is youth oriented. Horror as a genre is about large concepts and the treatment." Sammir Dattani plays male lead in the film, which will be shot in a single schedule of 40 days in the palaces and deserts of Rajasthan. The production house's next horror film is titled "Grrr" that Priyadarshan is directing.

Late pop legend Michael Jackson is rumoured to have a fourth child, Omer Bhatti, who was given a front-row seat at the singer's memorial service earlier this month. Norwegian dancer Bhatti, 25, is thought to be the "Billie Jean" singer's child from a one-night stand, reports imdb.com. Jackson, who passed away on June 25, is said to have admitted to friends in 2004 he was his father. Bhatti is now believed to be seeking a DNA test to determine if he is a descendent of the King of Pop. The performer was given a front-row seat at Jackson's memorial service July 7 at the Los Angeles Staples Center, sitting next to the star's brothers and sisters, fuelling speculation he is related to the pop icon. Although Bhatti's mother Pia and her husband Riz, who have worked for Jackson, refuse to talk about the star, Pia said Tuesday: "He was the King of Pop. But to us he was so much more." Bhatti also lived at Jackson's Neverland ranch home for several years from 1997, and video footage exists of him unwrapping presents with the singer and playing with a toddler, believed to be one of the "Thriller" hitmaker's other children - Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II, also known as 'Blanket', seven. The dancer was also at Neverland, in California, when police raided the property to investigate child molestation allegations in 2003. Bhatti first met Jackson in Tunisia in 1996 aged 12, and impressed him with his dance moves. He has since performed with the "Smooth criminal" singer in public and worked in a Jackson tribute act across the globe. The dancer's stepfather Riz is believed to have worked as a driver for Jackson while his mother is thought to have been a nanny. Meanwhile, police and federal agents on Wednesday (July 22) raided the Houston offices of Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray, in a search for medical records they believed would constitute evidence of manslaughter, the doctor's lawyer said.Murray was the personal physician who was with Jackson when the entertainer died suddenly of cardiac arrest last month at age of 50. Attention focused on the doctor in the immediate aftermath of Jackson's death when he dropped out of sight just as Jackson's family and investigators were seeking more information on the pop legend's last hours. Though the results of a coroner's report are yet to be released, attention is focused on the hospital anesthetic Propofol, a strictly controlled drug usually administered intravenously that can easily cause cardiac arrest if not properly administered. The results of a private autopsy carried out on behalf of the Jackson family have also not been revealed. News reports said that up to a dozen agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency entered the Murray's medical office, armed with a search warrant, looking for medical records. "The search warrant authorised law enforcement to search for and seize items, including documents, they believed constituted evidence of the offence of manslaughter," Ed Chernoff, Murray's attorney, said in a statement posted on his law firm's web site. In an earlier statement, Chernoff said that Murray did not prescribe any drugs that may have caused the singer's death but that the investigators were seeking Jackson's medical records. "The coroner wants to clear up the cause of death, we share that goal," he said. "We don't have access to the most important information in this case, the toxicology report. We're still in the dark like everybody else." Chernoff said that Murray's detailed description of Michael Jackson's last days should not make him a target of criminal charges. "Dr Murray was the last doctor standing when Michael Jackson died and it seems all the fury is directed toward him," Chernoff said. Police questioned Murray twice since Jackson's death and seized his car from the rented mansion where Jackson died, but clarified that he is not a suspect. The raid came as Sony Pictures paid some $60 million for footage shot during Jackson's final rehearsals for his comeback concert engagement in London, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be released on October 30 and will include several videos that were shot and meant to be shown during the concerts, including an alternative version of Jackson's most famous video, "Thriller". "High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega, who shot the rehearsal footage, is expected to become the director of the film, which could be released before year's end.

Is director Satish Kaushik's "Teree Sang" a copy of Hollywood film "Juno"? It may seem so going by the subject, but the filmmaker and his lead actors insist the film is an absolute original piece of work."I don't even think this really requires any justification," Kaushik told IANS."That's because while 'Juno' had released in December 2007, we had already wrapped up a major schedule for 'Teree Sang' by then. How can we be accused of copying a film that wasn't even heard about much till then, let alone being released?" he added. But Kaushik doesn't deny that he was indeed inspired by a Telugu film that was released a few years ago."I had seen this fabulous Telugu movie which again dealt with teenage pregnancy. I wanted the film's rights but couldn't get them. However, the idea stuck with me and I eventually decided to come up with an entirely different tale, though with the germ of teenage pregnancy. In the way it has eventually shaped up, 'Teree Sang' has nothing to do with that Telugu film though," he said.A film directed by Jason Reitman, "Juno" is about a 16-year-old high school girl Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) who discovers she is pregnant with a child fathered by her friend and long-time admirer Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). While at first she intends to have an abortion, she changes her mind and plans for the child's adoption."That's the very basic point in the plot where our film differs," said Sheena Shahabadi, the debutante leading lady of the film. "In 'Juno', the girl was looking for someone to adopt her unborn baby while in 'Teree Sang', the characters played by Ruslaan (Mumtaz) and me decide to live together and raise the child."Explaining the film's plot, Sheena said: "The only similarity between 'Teree Sang' and 'Juno' is teenage pregnancy. In one of their outdoor rendezvous with a bunch of friends, schoolmates Maahi (Sheena) and Kukko (Ruslaan) decide to 'experiment' and end up making love to each other. When Maahi gets pregnant, she decides to give birth to the child. In this journey of hers, she gets complete support from Kukko.Ruslaan added: "Well, let aside 'Juno', some idle minds are also comparing 'Teree Sang' with 'Kya Kehna'. Can you beat that? Story about any and every unwed mother can't be 'Kya Kehna', right?

The mother of MICHAEL JACKSON's youngest child is the Norweigan dental nurse who is also mum to Jackson's alleged secret ‘fourth child', according to reports.Pia Bhatti, whose son Omer is currently seeking a DNA test to prove he is Michael's first-born, is reportedly also mother to the superstar's youngest son, known as ‘Blanket'.When Jackson introduced Blanket to the world in 2002 during his controversial interview with Martin Bashir, he said that the child's mother was an anonymous surrogate who he had never met.But reports are surfacing in the US that not only had the singer met Blanket's mother, but he had also had a one night stand with her in 1984, producing a son, Omer, now 25.It is thought Omer captivated Jackson when they met up in Tunisia in 1996, through the then-12 year old's ability to mimic him and his dance moves. The singer took the child on tour with him and his family moved to live with Jackson at his Neverland Ranch.Reports allege Jackson struck up a deal with Pia Bhatti to provide him with a third child, alongside son Prince Michael, 12, and daughter Paris, 11, and she promised to keep her identity a secret.A source tells Star magazine, "Pia was sworn to secrecy about Blanket."The agreement she had with Michael was that she would never reveal herself to be Blanket's mum."When approached by Star reporters, Bhatti refused to comment on the claims.Meanwhile claimes that Omer is Jackson's secret lovechild have been fuelled by the 25-year-old's presence at the King of Pop's July 7 memorial service, where he sat in the front row with the Jackson family

STAR Plus is maintaining a no-comment stance over its controversial reality show "Sach Ka Saamna" that got high viewership ratings but is now under the government scanner after being hotly debated in parliament for its content. "We would not like to comment on the issue as of now," an official from STAR Plus told IANS Thursday, a day after the issue figured prominently in the upper house of parliament. Samajwadi Party MP Kamal Akhtar raised questions regarding the show's content in the Rajya Sabha and said the show that featured "unreasonable questions about a person's bedroom life" was against Indian culture. Later, the ministry of information and broadcasting also issued a showcause notice to the channel for violating the programming code of the Cable TV Network Act of 1995. STAR Plus has to respond to the notice latest by Monday (July 27). Siddharth Basu, head of BIG Synergy Adlabs that is producing the show, said in response: "I would not like to comment on the issue raised in parliament." "I have the highest regard for the institution and its members and I am sure things will be well considered and due process will be followed," Basu said in an SMS message to IANS. Based on the American show "The Moment of Truth", "Sach Ka Saamna" features contestants who have to answer 21 questions about their lives after undergoing a polygraph test that determines if an answer is true. A contestant with the perfect score gets to walk away with a prize money of Rs.10 million. The show is hosted by actor Rajeev Khandelwal.Celebrities like former cricketer Vinod Kambli and actress Urvashi Dholakia have already featured on the show and made some brave revelations. For instance, Urvashi was asked if she was thrown out of college for teenage pregnancy. Though she said no, the question itself raised many eyebrows. The premiere episode of the show, aired on July 15, had received a stupendous response in terms of its Television Rating Points (TRPs) that stood at 3.4 percent as against 1.6 percent registered by the first episode of "Iss Jungle Se..." on Sony TV, according to data provided by television viewership tracker Audience Measurement and Analytics (aMap). Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has called a meeting with the broadcaster's bodies Indian Broadcasting Federation and News Broadcasters Association on Thursday to discuss the issue.

Having been designated a style icon, Kareena Kapoor now intends to go on a long shopping binge in various fashion capitals and also cut her hair."I have to...I've no choice. I'm looked at as a fashion statement. Very tiring, but flattering. Dress designer Aki Narula has set impossible standards of fashion for me through my films. Now I've no choice but to live up to those standards. I've raised the bar for fashion," Kareena told IANS. "After 'Kambakkht Ishq' (pictured left), in 'Qurbaan' Aki has again made me look so special," added the actress who gives the credit for her 'Kambakkht..." look to Aki. "He went shopping for my clothes and accessories. This may be a film, but I've never worked harder. In terms of styling and body language even dance and drama, I really worked hard. I wanted it to be a 'phataka' kind of role. I wanted the audience to come out breathless," said Kareena, who may soon be off on a shopping expedition to fashion hubs such as Milan, Paris, London and New York. "It becomes tiring for everything I wear to be in the media glare. I constantly need to be well-dressed. It's a price I've to pay, in more ways than one. I don't have a choice but to have my wardrobe filled with choices. "Nowadays when I go abroad, I find myself spending more time in shops than holidaying. It's a responsibility. And I do need to be chic all the time. But my being a fashion icon also depends on my attitude and mood of the moment," said the actress. Asked if has she shifted loyalties from dress designer Manish Malhotra to Aki, she said: "No. I love Aki's work and plan to use his clothes very often. But Manish and I go back a long way. He dressed up my sister to stardom and then me. We're not the kind of people who move on in our friendships. "I'm back with Manish Malhotra in '3 Idiots' and the remake of 'Stepmom'. I'll be dressed up as a stylish young girl. I'm planning to cut my hair. I'm really proud to be called stylish. I like that," said the actress. The selection of clothes and designer depends upon the roles, says Kareena. "In 'Jab We Met', I was simply dressed in salwar-kameez. In my forthcoming films 'Qurbaan' and '3 Idiots', I'm minimalist in my clothes. "But 'Kambakkht Ishq' was about beautiful surfaces and shallow people. I had to dress immaculately. The standards for a heroine's look and styling had to be raised. In terms of clothes, hair and makeup we've done that in 'Kambakkht Ishq'. The fact is, I wanted to look very different. I wanted to look larger than life," she said. But the actress says she is equally comfortable playing a girl next door like she did in "Omkara". "If I can carry off Kolhapuri chappals in 'Omkara', I'm equally at home in Jimmy Choos in 'Kambakkht Ishq'. I'm equally proud of both kind of films. Madhuri (Dixit) did a 'Mrityudand' and a 'Choli ke peeche' (in 'Khalnayak') side by side. Look at the film actors like Madhuri, my sister Karisma, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay did in the 1990s. And look where they got! I guess I was lucky." Indo-Asia News Service

Mallika, the temperature and glamour quotient at Twitter has gone way up," is what the CEO of Twitter, Evan Williams, exclaimed as the Bollywood siren arrived at the Twitter HQ in San Francisco recently. Mallika arrived in a stretch limousine, with fans and media channels waiting outside for her. "I'm honoured to be the first Asian star to be invited to Twitter. Jai Ho," gushed an excited Mallika.Mallika greeted fans, signed autographs and posed for pictures outside Twitter's headquarters and then gave some inspirational remarks to Twitter employees during the lunch break. At the request of a Twitter executive, Mallika even showed the employees a few Bollywood dance moves, and then the whole company joined in for the jhatka-matkas, prompting a spontaneous company dance party. The promo of Mallika's forthcoming film “Hisss” was also shown to the Twitter employees during their lunch break. A coconut was broken by her producers in front of the Twitter office. Sherawat is expected to soon hit the silver screen in the film “Hisss”, directed by Hollywood filmmaker Jennifer Lynch (daughter of David Lynch), in which she plays a snake woman. Meanwhile, word is that San Francisco's District Attorney Kamala Harris has served as inspiration for a film about to hit production this summer in Los Angeles starring Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat. The actress has "tweeted" about how "I'll B 'shadowing' her to research my new film role. I play 'Aretha Gupta', inspired by Kamala:-)"

Director Kunal Deshmukh's next outing "Tum Mile" will show Emraan Hashmi (pictured left) portraying the role of a painter once again after "Raaz...The Mystery Continues", but he denies any similarities in his role. "Emraan's role in 'Raaz...' and the one in 'Tum Mile' are completely different. The painter in my film is more real considering its backdrop (Mumbai floods) and for that Emraan got into the skin of the character," Deshmukh told IANS. "He trained and learned all the required techniques and mediums from artiste Sailesh Achrekar. We also met a lot of upcoming painters and spoke to them about the style, etc, which came in very handy," he added. Also starring Soha Ali Khan, "Tum Mile" is slated to release on November 13

Kareena Kapoor might be facing the flak for her 'bitchy' role in Sabbir Khan's directorial debut "Kambakkht Ishq", but that hasn't deterred the one-film-old director from expressing a desire to work with her again. "I loved working with her. She is a brilliant actress and I'd love to work with her again. She is born to act and be in the movies. In fact, I think if she hadn't been in the movies, she wouldn't have been anywhere else," Khan told IANS. Also starring Akshay Kumar, "Kambakkht Ishq" proved to be a commercial hit, but was panned by the critics

With Hollywood studios keeping a hawk's eye over the Hindi film industry, Bollywood filmmakers are growing copyright savvy and Abbas-Mustan (pictured left) say that their "Italian Job" won't just be a remake of the 2003 con-caper but a "mix n match" of the original film and its remake."Italian Job" was originally made by Peter Collinson in 1969 with Michael Caine in the lead. In 2003, director F. Gary Gray remade it with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. Both the original and the remake were big hits. "Our producer Studio 18 have bought the rights of both the 1969 Michael Caine film and the 2003 film. We're doing a mix n match of 'Italian Job'. We're taking whatever elements we like from the two Hollywood films and putting them together in our own way," Abbas told IANS. In the past, Abbas-Mustan have outright lifted Hollywood films like "Disclosure" to make "Aetraaz". They put them together without radical changes. "But this time we aren't doing that," said Abbas currently scripting the film. "We want to turn the 'Italian Job' into a total desi film." The cast is yet to be decided. But the sources said that the director plans to rope in Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Shahid Kapur and Neil Nitin Mukesh, among others.

After the failure of her first international project “Karma Aur Holi”, Sushmita Sen is once again set to act in a Hollywood film. If reports are to be believed, Sushmita is being considered for a part in a spy thriller that has American heartthrob Mark Whalberg in it. The film is based on a series of novels and part production of the film is planned for India. This is not the first time Sushmita has been offered this project. She had earlier rejected it because she was busy with her ambitious venture “Rani Laxmibai”. But now that the project is shelved, it is likely Sushmita will take up the Hollywood film.

After the huge success of “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” last year, Genelia D’Souza (pictured left) is all set for her next release. But Genelia seems to be having her own way in deciding which of her films will release next.

“It’s My Life, her movie with Harman Baweja, is almost complete and ready for release. But Genelia wants that her Ken Ghosh film opposite Shahid Kapur should release first. The film has created quite a buzz and she feels that it will give her the publicity she needs.

Harman has failed to make a mark in the industry and on the other hand Shahid is sizzling hot property. Apparently, that’s why Genelia is trying all tricks possible to delay the release of “It’s My Life”.

First it was the patchwork of the film and now it’s the dubbing. It seems that the makers are trying hard to get dates from Genelia to dub but of no avail. She has kept delaying them by saying she is unwell.

Now the director too has decided to get back at her. He is said to be thinking of hiring a dubbing artiste if Genelia does not give the dates soon.
