"God has given me plenty of reasons to smile and I feel it's time to spread it around. There are a lot of children out there who so desperately need help, but can't receive timely care because their families cannot afford this surgery or are ill-educated about this condition. Shahid Kapur's "Paathshala" (pictured above), which has been ready for the last one year, will finally hit screens next year and the actor says his role is substantial even though it is not long enough."'Paathshala' is small in comparison to some other films that I am doing. Moreover, I am not a quintessential hero in the film. However, it isn't as if I have a special appearance in the film, as has been speculated by some. I have a substantial role that lasts for 30-40 minutes in the film," Shahid, who had two releases - "Kaminey" and "Dil Bole Hadippa" this year -, told IANS. "Paathshala" was earlier being co-produced by choreographer-turned-filmmaker Ahmed Khan with Big Pictures. However, as per current developments, Eros International would be presenting the film. The first look of the film was revealed a year ago with "Karzzzz". It was expected that the film would release in January 2009, but it continued to move ahead. Directed by award-winning Marathi film director Milind Ukey, "Paatshala" is expected to release in the first half of 2010. "Yes, the film moved from Big Pictures to Eros and they would be making plans to line up the film in a proper manner. However, I am sure they would have the right campaign in place for the film's release. The film has to be protected and released when there is no other film of mine coming up," said Shahid, who plays a teacher in it. The film brings together Ayesha Takia with Shahid after "Dil Maange More" and "Fool-N-Final". Incidentally, the two had worked together years ago as child artistes in the famous commercial for the health drink Complan. The film also stars Nana Patekar along with child artistes Swini Khara, Ali Haji and Dwij Yadav. Set against the Indian education system, "Paathshala" deals with contemporary and socially relevant issues regarding children. It claims to carry a heartfelt message for children, parents and teachers. "It's a very socially relevant film and talks about the education system in the country. I am really happy to have played a role in it. I have seen the rushes of the film and really cried throughout. I get really emotional when watching a film. Even during 'Taare Zameen Par', I cried throughout and was looking around me if anyone was watching me," he said. Unlike "Taare Zameen Par", which was shot on real locations, "Paathshala" was filmed on a set. To give it an authentic look, Khan had erected a massive set of a school at Film City -- it consisted of class rooms, dormitories, principal's cabin, staff rooms, half a dozen huge corridors, basket ball court, garden, assembly hall, music room and canteen.

"Dev D" actress Kalki Koechlin says her boyfriend Anurag Kashyap, who has written screenplays and dialogues for memorable films like "Satya" and "Black Friday", thinks she is a better writer than him."Anurag thinks he is a useless writer. But I can't talk anything about it right now except that it's a thriller. "It's his idea. He narrated it to me a year back and asked me if I wanted to write it. I initially denied because I didn't think I could take that responsibility but then I wrote the first draft and he transformed it by adding more pieces and putting them together to give it the form of a story," she explained. Kalki describes Kashyap as an open minded director. "He gives you the space and lets you do things on your own. He always gives a chance to the deserving," she said, on the sidelines of the 11th edition of the annual Osian's Cinefan Film Festival of Asian and Arab Cinema. Talking about her relationship with Kashyap, she said: "Being together with him has worked a lot in our professional life too because we have been constantly challenging our creative sensibilities. Both of us are very intense in the way we think and take things." Before venturing into films with "Dev D", she studied "drama and theatre in university" and "majored in scriptwriting and acting". The film is a contemporary interpretation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic novel "Devdas" and Kalki played the role of a prostitute Chanda in it. Born to French parents, Kalki apparently took Hindi lessons for "Dev D" and is still working on her dialect and diction. Oscar bound film’s director denied US visa

Paresh Mokashi, whose Marathi film "Harishchandrachi Factory" has been selected as India's official entry to the Oscars, is stuck without a visa to the US.The US consulate in Mumbai refused to give him the visa, saying they didn't know him or that his film is going for the Oscars. "I don't really blame them. I didn't have a face that was instantly recognisable. They didn't know who I was. And I had no papers to prove that this disoriented looking man had made a film that had been sent to the Oscars," Mokashi told IANS. The director had no papers, not even a letter from the Academy Awards committee to prove his eligibility for the visa because he had given all the documents to his producers - UTV. "Whatever intimation I received about the Oscar entry from the US, I handed over to UTV. But, of course, the US consulate didn't say I was lying. They rightly felt I was not eligible until I had the documents. This was my first encounter for an American visa. And naturally my first trip to the US," said Mokashi. "The only time I've been abroad was to London to shoot a part of 'Hrishchandrachi Factory'. So I was completely unaware of how things work. I don't know how to handle it," added the director who had to mortgage his property to make the film. UTV had to step in to rescue the director, who needs to be in LA from Nov 2. "The US consulate has promised to give me a visa after taking my passport. They said they'd grant me a visa. Let's see. They had yet to decide for how long and in what capacity. They seem to have a very thin line dividing the people who want to visit for genuine reasons from those who are wrongly motivated," he said. Mokashi hopes to be in the US for 25 days in November to promote the film for the Oscars. "I need to understand the situation. I've never been to the Oscars, have no idea of how the Oscars work. I also need to be back for the film's release in India. Then I return to the US to be with the film till the Oscars," he said.

As he awaits the verdict of State Minorities Commission (SMC) on his complaint against a south Mumbai housing society, Bollywood star Emraan Hashmi (pictured left) says he know religious profiling is practised by people in more than one community. Emraan has complained he was not allowed to buy a house in the society because he is a Muslim. "The problem of being denied property on grounds of religion is prevalent all over the country. Now so many Muslims have come forward claiming the same. And mind you, I know religious profiling works both ways. "I know of Muslim colonies where Hindus are not allowed to stay. I spoke out as a segregated citizen, not a Muslim. I want all discrimination in property allotment to go. Otherwise why do we call ourselves a democracy?" Emraan told IANS. The actor alleged he was denied permission to buy a house in the upmarket Pali Hill area of Mumbai because he was Muslim. Pali Hill's Nibbana Cooperative Society, he said, refused to give him a 'no-objection certificate'. He filed a complaint with the SMC, demanding action against the society members. The society reportedly has mostly Hindus and a couple of Catholic families. There were more developments in the case on Sunday, when a Mumbai resident accused Emraan and film director Mahesh Bhatt of "fomenting communal tensions to gain cheap publicity". The two had held a press conference to highlight the complaint. Emraan has been forced to beef up his security. "He moves around with a lot of securitymen. It's a precautionary measure. His house is looking like a fortress," said a source close to the actor. "The complaint doesn't deter Emraan at all. It's an age-old ploy to silence you. No one can accuse Emraan of inciting communal disharmony. Religious discrimination in buying and renting property has been going on a very long time. No one talked about it openly. It's a sensitive issue." Office-bearers of the housing society have been changing their statements repeatedly. "They said he was kept out because he was serial kisser," the source said. "For some reason they also made up an absurd allegation that Emraan's parents barged into the office of the property dealers. Emraan's parents had taken a proper appointment and gone and they were treated badly. They were told the housing society people were busy.

The “3 Idiots” distribution deal has been called off.The deal was between the film’s producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra and distributors Indian Film Company for the worldwide rights of the film. However, nothing was agreed in writing. Later Chopra wanted the Indian Film Company to leave the audio rights of the film, as he wanted to sell them off to Sony. The Company agreed on the same and decided to reduce the value of the audio rights proportionately. Next Chopra wanted to sell the overseas and the home video rights to yet another party. Indian Film Company was then only left with the Indian theatrical rights and the satellite rights. Chopra once again changed his mind and decided to keep the India distribution rights with himself. The deal then carried no meaning and hence was called off. Till now, none of the parties have been willing to talk about what went wrong in the deal. The audio rights have ultimately been sold by Chopra to T-Series and not Sony for Rs.12 crore.

A police complaint has been filed against item girl Rakhi Sawant and five others for infringement of copyright regarding NDTV's reality show "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar". The channel has promised to defend the actress as well as itself.Gaurav Tiwari, the Jaipur-based owner of the web portal swayamvar.com, Tuesday filed a complaint against Rakhi, actor Ravi Kishan and a top official of the channel apart from others, for allegedly stealing the concept of a marriage-based TV reality show for "Rakhi Ka Swayamvar" from his portal. An official statement by the channel says Tiwari had earlier filed a suit against them in a district court in Jaipur but the court refused to grant him any relief. He appealed against the order in the High Court, which also refused to grant him any interim relief, including his demand that the show not be telecast, according to the channel. "Now that there are press reports of him having filed a criminal complaint, we shall make the necessary enquiries, and proceed to defend the matter as may be advised to us," said the statement from the channel. "It is not unusual in our industry for litigation around successful shows - there have been several instances of frivolous litigations filed across the country around movies and television programmers to impact their launch or telecast, resulting in press publicity for the complainant. "Our position is that everything involving the creation and ownership of the show is legally above board, and we believe that the allegations are false and malicious and intended to defame our company," added the statement. Model-turned-actor Rajniesh Duggall will play Khalid Mohammed in "Rutba", which is being directed by the film critic-turned-director.Khalid, who took inspiration from his mother's life for scripting Shyam Benegal's critically acclaimed film "Zubeidaa", has incorporated his real life incidents in the story of "Rutba". "This movie is a fictionalised version of some events inspired by Khalid's life and I would be playing Khalid in it. "Rutba", which is being produced by Vikram Bhatt, is Khalid's fourth directorial venture after "Silsiilay" (2005), "Tehzeeb" (2003) and Fiza (2000). Rajniesh describes it as an intense movie. "My character is very serious and the film doesn't have many light moments, but it won't be heavy. It is a very balanced movie," said the former Mr. India. "Khalid wanted to take me and when he narrated the story to me, I just loved it. Also, this is one of those opportunities where I would be working with one of the finest directors. Learning is a never ending process and working with Khalid for this movie is another big opportunity for me," he added. In "Rutba", the actor is paired with a newcomer. This would be Rajniesh's third movie with Vikram Bhatt after "1920" and "Phhirr", which is slated to release in September. His other projects include a romantic comedy "Bajaj Lost and Found" where he plays a man who is in search of his parents, but when he finds them he wants to get rid of them. Instead of debuting with a romantic film, Sheena Nayar is making her acting debut with the spooky thriller "8", which is the first project of Percept Picture Company (PPC) Horrortainment.PPC Horrotainment is PPC's special arm for producing horror films and it has joined hands with Glorious Entertainment for the project, to be directed by Wilson Louis. Sheena says she accepted the film because the script will give her a perfect platform to showcase her talent. "The association of PPC, Wilson Louis plus the script was the key ingredients in my choosing this film as my launch. My forte is to act and I feel this film will give me the perfect platform to do just that. Even the director felt that the character is a very intense one and only a serious minded actor would be able to pull it off" she said. Navin Shah, CEO of PPC, said: "The film is a smart and trendy horror film which is youth oriented. Horror as a genre is about large concepts and the treatment." Sammir Dattani plays male lead in the film, which will be shot in a single schedule of 40 days in the palaces and deserts of Rajasthan. The production house's next horror film is titled "Grrr" that Priyadarshan is directing.

Norwegian dancer Bhatti, 25, is thought to be the "Billie Jean" singer's child from a one-night stand, reports imdb.com. Jackson, who passed away on June 25, is said to have admitted to friends in 2004 he was his father. Bhatti is now believed to be seeking a DNA test to determine if he is a descendent of the King of Pop. The performer was given a front-row seat at Jackson's memorial service July 7 at the Los Angeles Staples Center, sitting next to the star's brothers and sisters, fuelling speculation he is related to the pop icon. Although Bhatti's mother Pia and her husband Riz, who have worked for Jackson, refuse to talk about the star, Pia said Tuesday: "He was the King of Pop. But to us he was so much more." "The search warrant authorised law enforcement to search for and seize items, including documents, they believed constituted evidence of the offence of manslaughter," Ed Chernoff, Murray's attorney, said in a statement posted on his law firm's web site. In an earlier statement, Chernoff said that Murray did not prescribe any drugs that may have caused the singer's death but that the investigators were seeking Jackson's medical records. "The coroner wants to clear up the cause of death, we share that goal," he said. "We don't have access to the most important information in this case, the toxicology report. We're still in the dark like everybody else." Chernoff said that Murray's detailed description of Michael Jackson's last days should not make him a target of criminal charges. "Dr Murray was the last doctor standing when Michael Jackson died and it seems all the fury is directed toward him," Chernoff said. Police questioned Murray twice since Jackson's death and seized his car from the rented mansion where Jackson died, but clarified that he is not a suspect. The raid came as Sony Pictures paid some $60 million for footage shot during Jackson's final rehearsals for his comeback concert engagement in London, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film will be released on October 30 and will include several videos that were shot and meant to be shown during the concerts, including an alternative version of Jackson's most famous video, "Thriller". "High School Musical" director Kenny Ortega, who shot the rehearsal footage, is expected to become the director of the film, which could be released before year's end.

It may seem so going by the subject, but the filmmaker and his lead actors insist the film is an absolute original piece of work."I don't even think this really requires any justification," Kaushik told IANS."That's because while 'Juno' had released in December 2007, we had already wrapped up a major schedule for 'Teree Sang' by then. How can we be accused of copying a film that wasn't even heard about much till then, let alone being released?" he added.But Kaushik doesn't deny that he was indeed inspired by a Telugu film that was released a few years ago."I had seen this fabulous Telugu movie which again dealt with teenage pregnancy. I wanted the film's rights but couldn't get them. However, the idea stuck with me and I eventually decided to come up with an entirely different tale, though with the germ of teenage pregnancy. In the way it has eventually shaped up, 'Teree Sang' has nothing to do with that Telugu film though," he said.A film directed by Jason Reitman, "Juno" is about a 16-year-old high school girl Juno MacGuff (Ellen Page) who discovers she is pregnant with a child fathered by her friend and long-time admirer Paulie Bleeker (Michael Cera). Objections against 'Sach Ka Saamna' in parliament

STAR Plus is maintaining a no-comment stance over its controversial reality show "Sach Ka Saamna" that got high viewership ratings but is now under the government scanner after being hotly debated in parliament for its content. "We would not like to comment on the issue as of now," an official from STAR Plus told IANS Thursday, a day after the issue figured prominently in the upper house of parliament. Samajwadi Party MP Kamal Akhtar raised questions regarding the show's content in the Rajya Sabha and said the show that featured "unreasonable questions about a person's bedroom life" was against Indian culture. Later, the ministry of information and broadcasting also issued a showcause notice to the channel for violating the programming code of the Cable TV Network Act of 1995. STAR Plus has to respond to the notice latest by Monday (July 27). Siddharth Basu, head of BIG Synergy Adlabs that is producing the show, said in response: "I would not like to comment on the issue raised in parliament." "I have the highest regard for the institution and its members and I am sure things will be well considered and due process will be followed," Basu said in an SMS message to IANS. Based on the American show "The Moment of Truth", "Sach Ka Saamna" features contestants who have to answer 21 questions about their lives after undergoing a polygraph test that determines if an answer is true. A contestant with the perfect score gets to walk away with a prize money of Rs.10 million. The show is hosted by actor Rajeev Khandelwal.Celebrities like former cricketer Vinod Kambli and actress Urvashi Dholakia have already featured on the show and made some brave revelations. For instance, Urvashi was asked if she was thrown out of college for teenage pregnancy. Though she said no, the question itself raised many eyebrows. The premiere episode of the show, aired on July 15, had received a stupendous response in terms of its Television Rating Points (TRPs) that stood at 3.4 percent as against 1.6 percent registered by the first episode of "Iss Jungle Se..." on Sony TV, according to data provided by television viewership tracker Audience Measurement and Analytics (aMap). 'Tum Mile' director slams rumours about Emraan's role

In 2003, director F. Gary Gray remade it with Mark Wahlberg and Charlize Theron. Both the original and the remake were big hits. "Our producer Studio 18 have bought the rights of both the 1969 Michael Caine film and the 2003 film. We're doing a mix n match of 'Italian Job'. We're taking whatever elements we like from the two Hollywood films and putting them together in our own way," Abbas told IANS. In the past, Abbas-Mustan have outright lifted Hollywood films like "Disclosure" to make "Aetraaz". They put them together without radical changes. "But this time we aren't doing that," said Abbas currently scripting the film. "We want to turn the 'Italian Job' into a total desi film." The cast is yet to be decided. But the sources said that the director plans to rope in Saif Ali Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Imran Khan, Shahid Kapur and Neil Nitin Mukesh, among others.

After the huge success of “Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na” last year, Genelia D’Souza (pictured left) is all set for her next release. But Genelia seems to be having her own way in deciding which of her films will release next.

“It’s My Life, her movie with Harman Baweja, is almost complete and ready for release. But Genelia wants that her Ken Ghosh film opposite Shahid Kapur should release first. The film has created quite a buzz and she feels that it will give her the publicity she needs.

Harman has failed to make a mark in the industry and on the other hand Shahid is sizzling hot property. Apparently, that’s why Genelia is trying all tricks possible to delay the release of “It’s My Life”.

First it was the patchwork of the film and now it’s the dubbing. It seems that the makers are trying hard to get dates from Genelia to dub but of no avail. She has kept delaying them by saying she is unwell.

Now the director too has decided to get back at her. He is said to be thinking of hiring a dubbing artiste if Genelia does not give the dates soon.
